why i love my job | madison children’s photographer

These three little stunners are perfect examples of why I adore being a photographer of children. They are silly and spunky. They love to play. They are unafraid to be themselves, teeth or no teeth. They don’t care what I’m wearing or how my hair looks. And best of all…I can act as crazy ridiculous as I like, and they think it’s awesome. Now how fun is that? I believe I’ve proved my point.

Thanks, Kayla, for sharing your beauties with me!

sneaky peek | madison children’s photographer

My baby girls were generous enough to allow their ol’ momma a photo session last weekend and I am  just TOO TOO thrilled (get it? ok, that was bad) with the results. It’s killing me to put them on hold for a bit, but I must. Just one little image doesn’t hurt, though…right? I feel better already.

lucky boys | madison children’s photographer

Nicholas and Devon have one magnificent mom.  When she realized it had been a while since her boys had professional photos taken, she booked me as a surprise for her husband. The boys must be really fantastic secret keepers, because their dad didn’t find out until they showed him the image gallery! They had expressed great concern to me during our session that Dad was a master tickler and might just be talented enough to get it out of them, but they held strong. Way to prevail, boys.

Check out these amazing, freckle-faced brothers hanging out at home and doing their own thing…and thanks so much, guys, for the laughs and superb cooperation! It was an immense joy for me to be welcomed into your family with such openness and a spirit of fun and generosity. Give Lucky a belly rub from me!

♥ t.

I fully believe the boys would never forgive me if I did not introduce the much-beloved furry lady of the house, Lucky the Goldendoodle, right off the bat.

8-year-old Nicholas, smart and silly lover of his dog, his stuffed friends, basketball, karate and Olympic bed jumping.

Talented big brother Devon is an 11-year-old black belt, trumpet player, skateboarder and all-around good guy.

Very proud and loving momma Anne jumped in for a few shots with her baby boys, too. Love when that happens!

blog6

And you knew it was coming…it’s a law of the universe that brothers MUST roughhouse at least once every hour. These crazy boys were no exception (and neither was Lucky, who wanted in on the action!).

Judy Werner - I’m so honored to be related to such a talented, incredible woman. You never cease to amaze me with your work. Cudos to you once again, cousin!

Carla - LOVE the Olympic-bed-jumping shot! AWESOME! Fabulous job as always my dear!

carrie ann - colorful and creative shots, my friend– and I love the layout of the blog- a great gift for Dad, indeed :)

Andrea Roberts - As a momma to two boys, these make my heart smile. I can only hope to have someone capture such amazing images of my babies someday!

Kathi - Holy Freckles is right, Batman! Gees Tara, I don’t know where to begin??? Could you just come to CA please? These are the most delightful, playful, endearing, cute, tug-at-your-heart photographs! What a blessing you are :)

Maria Hays - What a wonderful surprise for Dad! I’m sure he was thrilled with such awesome images!

Meg Sexton Photography - Adorable! I love the expressions in the last storyboard.

pretties, revisited | madison photographer

When I created this blog several months ago, I planned to now and then post about those things in my life that bring me joy, are meaningful to me, or that are just simply very, very cool (in my own humble opinion, of course). Haven’t done that for some time now, so thought we were due for a pretties post! Nothing that will change the world, but might at least give you a gift idea, an “I must go out and get me one of those immediately” feeling, or even just a fun little lift in your day. Now onto the show…

♥ t.

I first glimpsed this stunning and unique peacock feather necklace on Heather Armstrong’s blog and just like that, I was madly in love (we locked eyes across a crowded floor…oh, never mind.). It’s surprisingly versatile and I adore the way it pops when wearing white, especially. I literally have never worn it without at least one stranger complimenting me on it and asking me for details. LOVE.

[and be sure to check out all of the other beautiful pieces of art the very lovely and talented Amy has created on her Apple Scraps website...stunning!]

Next up is this adorable vintage-y metal lunchbox that I found for my children several years ago. The one shown here is Simon’s (Avery’s is white with cherries and Eliza’s is pale blue with big pink flowers). It fits a juice box and snack or little lunch perfectly and just looks so dang cute when they carry it you can barely stop yourself from singing. The girls have outgrown theirs for school lunch (not cool enough anymore, apparently) but use them in their bedrooms to store little trinkets, jewelry, hair accessories, etc. I can see these boxes being used for things in a home for the rest of their lives, and then being passed down to their own children. Even if that little fantasy doesn’t actually come to fruition, the retro sweetness of these still makes me smile with appreciation in the meantime.

[just noticed that these are on sale right now...go, go, go!]

And finally, this tissue tee (also on sale…I’m on a roll!) with a sweet message subtly highlighted. As my closest friends know, I particularly like to wear this shirt when I am feeling somewhat less than a “lucky mom” (my kids are driving me crazy, I feel like I’m losing my brain, I want to hide…you get the picture). I have found that simply putting it on changes my perspective a bit and serves as an important reminder to count my blessings. It also helps to chant to yourself “lucky mom, 24/7″ over and over until it begins to sound less sarcastic. Seriously, give it a shot…works like a charm (and is so cute to boot). And be sure to check out the other “mom” tees on this website, too…grateful mom, happy mom, etc. I found this new version of mine that I think will be heading my way in a big brown truck very soon.

Judy - Love that t-shirt!!!!! Need to find one of those for me. Feelin’ not so lucky sometimes…..

Maria Hays - ooh I love that peacock necklace! Such a fun blog post today!!

Jody - I had to comment on this as well…my husband has a shirt from Pantagonia that says “Live Simply” and although our lives are a little far from most of the time, it is a great reminder and something to strive for. Love this post!
