my silly boy | madison children’s photographer

…and simply because I adore images of crazy, joyful, slightly disgusting 4-year-old boys who know what they’re made of and aren’t the least bit afraid to show it, I present to you in all his glory:

my beautiful, tender-hearted, noisy little man…

the coolest albums EVER

I cannot possibly express emphatically enough how much I adore these yummy new albums now being offered to my clients. Not only are they unbelievably gorgeous, as you can see, but they are child-friendly, people! Meaning your little friends can actually look at and enjoy their album just like the grown-ups (without the aid of protective gloves even!). This is all thanks to the waterproof (read: “can be wiped clean”) and durable image-wrapped photo cover and UV-coated photographic paper inside the album. Amazing, I tell you.

So here’s the scoop…

These beauties are flush-mounted albums, meaning the images are printed directly onto the thick and sturdy pages…eliminating any worry of prints falling out.

They open up to be completely flat, for ease of photo viewing and enjoyment.

There are 3 fabulous sizes from which to choose:

6×6 mini album (includes 20 images from your gallery)

9×9 session album (includes 30 images from your gallery)

12×12 coffee table album (includes 30 images from your gallery)

Please email me for detailed pricing.

OK, folks…if you find that you simply cannot live another day without getting one of these babies for your very own, contact me as soon as possible to book your session. As you can imagine now that warmer weather is settling in, spring and summer are booking up quickly

One more thing…you can now officially subscribe to the Tara Kuhlow Photography blog if you wish, which includes the lovely perk of receiving convenient email messages whenever there is a new post. Just fill in your email address in the little box at the top right-hand corner of this page and hit “subscribe by email”.  Easy as pie, and then you won’t risk missing any of the upcoming deals, events and exciting updates!

two birds, one stone | madison children’s photographer

I am thrilled to announce that one of my images has been chosen for the cover of the spring/summer 2009 edition of the Madison Area’s Parent’s Guide! Local readers can find this lovely and informational little booklet out and about in the community and also through the publication’s website. Fabulous resource for all of the kid-friendly businesses in our area.

Those of you who know my family will understand fully the meaning behind the title of this post, as the news of this cover was exciting for a completely different reason to the people who live in my house. The lovely pink-trenched blondie you see on the cover is none other than my vibrant middle child, 7-year-old Eliza. This girl has craved and chased the spotlight basically since birth, and as soon as she could speak was begging us to find a way to make her famous. I have known about my part in this publication for a while, but waited to tell her until it had actually been printed (can you imagine what that elation and then ultimate disappointment might have done to her psyche if it had fallen through? let’s shudder together at the thought…). I received my own copy in the mail and allowed her to open it, videotaping the moment for proof of the pure bliss and crazy ear-shattering reaction I was certain would take place. Let’s just say, I could not have been more correct on that assumption. And for a short time anyway, I get the (temporary, I’m sure) honor of being the coolest mom around according my boisterous but tender-hearted little diva, who daily says to me in an alarmingly high voice that will surely bring dogs to our front door, “Can you BELIEVE I am on the COVER of a MAGAZINE?????”

[word of warning: you may want to wear ear plugs or at least turn down the volume a bit when viewing]

Captured by Jess - Ha! That was great! Kudos to the publication!!

emily - this is so great and just makes me laugh! ;)

~SarahInParis~ - Tara that is SO awesome. I love Eliza’s reaction. Did she really faint?

christy - Tara! That is so awesome! Congratulations, you deserve it and so does your gorgeous daughter :)

Jennifer Chaney - SO great! Congratulations to you both!!!

natasha g - wow, congrats… and your daughter’s reaction is way too cute!

LaurieK. - Yes, I absolutely can believe it because you are AWESOME!!! That video of your daughter opening the magazine just made my day!! Congratulations!

LAURA JIRSA DILLE - Yippeeee!!! Eliza must be over the moon! Will she be handing out the magazines with an autograph?

Nikki - I’m dying laughing! Everyone in my office came running in to see what the screaming was about. She is a shining star. As are you my friend.

elizabeth - thanks for the morning laugh… that reaction was priceless. congrats to you and miss eliza!!!!

Marti - Tara, how fantastic for the both of you! I will be certain to pick up our copy and get Ellie’s autograph the next time I see her:)

Brie - LOVE IT! I love when our little divas find so much happiness! Congrats Momma… Congrats Diva!

Nichole - Congrats! Way to go great picture!

Anina - Wow, what a great honor for Eliza and the photographer. The magazines are everywhere and she deserves the spotlight. I will look for a copy. Congratulations!

Kathy Kuhlow - Tara,

How wonderful for Eli! Hannah will be so jealous and want to know all about it over Easter.

pretties

So I like to shop. This is no secret to my friends and especially not one to my darling husband. I love it at the store, in catalogs, and most of all, online. I’ve always been this way and I am sure will continue to be so until the end of my days. The challenge for me is balance and to not become obsessed with the hunt for lovely things. Because of course, I DO have a family who needs me and doesn’t so much care if Momma has found great deals on stylish items…they just want me present in their lives (regardless of whether I have on a pair of fabulous boots). So it’s a struggle. But now with the economy as it is, the pursuit of finding those bargains becomes a necessity and a strength of sorts (at least that is what I’m telling myself). I am always drawn to blogs that now and then showcase fantastic and stylish items that the blogger has recently discovered. Household items, decor, kids’ stuff, clothing, etc. With that inspiration, I plan to do that here, on my very own little blog. What I found, where I got it, why I had to have it…you get the idea. Here we go! Hope you enjoy the pretties.

♥ t.

I adore the unique style of designer Orla Kiely and was beyond excited to see her new kitchenware line at Target. Makes my morning  cup of coffee look even more gorgeous and delectable. Online it shows them in sets of two, but you can get them individually at the store. If you google her, you will find all kinds of other products she has created, including clothing and paper products.

20090226_0005edit

We had used a plain ol’ white shower curtain in our master bathroom for many a year, and I was more than ready for a change to something punchy and cheerful. Since I’m not a morning person, I required a lovely and much-needed in-your-face “GOOD MORNING, SUNSHINE!” kind of pattern to greet me each day. Found this one at Pottery Barn and it manages to tie together all of the colors in both our bedroom and bathroom (including my beloved chocolate brown fluffy towels…ahhhh).

20090110_0029edit

Originally saw this idea on my girl Heather Armstrong’s blog using some bowls from IKEA and when I spotted this sweet and vintagey little item at Target recently, I knew it would be perfect for displaying my fancy baubles. Why hide them in a drawer or box when they can add so beautifully to the look of your dresser top every day? Again, advertised as sold in larger sets (and online only), but I purchased mine all by its lonesome and in the actual store. If you look around your kitchen, you probably already own something that will work just fabulously.

carrie ann - anyone who knows tara, knows she has an incredible sense of style, despite the fact she could look amazing even in a gunny sack. :) even better, she’s more than happy to share where she ran across a great deal and wants her peeps to experience that same rush when it happens! (do you love my use of ‘peeps’, t? richie’s teaching me his lingo!) this blog entry is a fancy way of sharing the simple things that bring you joy- way to go girl!

Ellen - So I am totally NOT a shopper (except for garage sales!), but these pics may convert me!

kim donohue - I LOVE that shower curtain. It makes me smile! Very cute.

sarah - Now, yet *another* reason to swing by your blog! :)

Brie - we may have been separated at birth.

superstar | madison children’s photographer

This girl is something else. Can you believe those eyes? And the to-die-for hair? In addition to her ethereal beauty, 4-year-old Neav (rhymes with Eve, the sweetie from my last session…anyone out there have a little Steve? I’m on a roll here!) has this incredible sweetness and self-assurance that makes you feel all joyful when you’re with her.

Although it was a cold and blustery day, we even found a couple of spots outside that worked VERY briefly, and only after promises of mini marshmallows by her momma Brie (who discovered too late that there were just 5 lonely little morsels left in the bag). Yikes! The sweetest part? That lovely child still offered me one. I’d like to say I declined her offer so that she could enjoy them all, but this lady was hungry. And it was absolutely delicious. Have I mentioned how very much I love my job?

Thanks so much for inviting me to play with you girls (a rare treat for Neav, who is the middle child and suddenly had TWO fun grown-ups completely committed to showing her a good time!). As I mentioned to her momma after the session…I just dare you to tell me that this gorgeous and sparkly child is not destined for stardom (in fact, some of these shots will be used for Neav’s portfolio, as she is signed with a talent agency in town). Watch for her name in lights at a theater near you in about, say, 14 years?

I am continuing with my new blog offer for clients (which was a success with the post of my friend Eve, the spunky ballerina)…

25 comments on Neav’s post will get her family a beautiful print from her session on me!
